Video: Gao Yaojie, the AIDS Fighter (3/4) – YouTube

Dr. Gao Yaojie, the 80-year-old veteran AIDS fighter and national hero, was recently barred by the local government from going to Beijing to get her US visa to receive an award from US senator and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

In the third part of this video series, Gao stresses about the potential destabilizing factor of AIDS orphans, a group of children she has been helping since 1999. She also learned that giving money to these children’s familial custodians wasn’t effective, and later sent these kids, 164 under her own sponsorship, to foster homes for better care. Gao has received numerous awards, from home and abroad, and has also been flooded by 800 letters from swindlers, some of whom claim to have AIDS cures. What most upsets Gao is probably people’s ignorance, including her college classmates, and officials’ lying about reality.
