Toward the end of his life, the Chinese artist Lin Fengmian could often be found painting at home in Hong Kong. Until he died in 1991, Lin occupied a series of modest apartments in his adopted city.
“He kept a very low profile and it was a very peaceful and quiet life. He enjoyed the freedom to do what he wanted,” said Raymond Tang Man-leung, one of the organizers of “A Pioneer of Modern Chinese Painting: The Art of Lin Fengmian.” The show, which took a decade to put together, features an unprecedented gathering of more than a hundred of Lin’s works.
