Xi Jinping Elected as Shanghai Party Secretary – Chen Yiqin and Winny Wang

Xi Jinping was elected as Party secretary of the Shanghai Committee of the Communist Party of China today at the first plenary session of the Ninth CPC Shanghai Committee.

Xi, born in June 1953, joined the CPC in January 1974. Xi was appointed as Shanghai Party chief on March 24.

He is a member of the 16th CPC Central Committee and became Party secretary in Zhejiang Province in 2002.

Han Zheng and Yin Yicui were elected as the deputy Party secretaries of Shanghai at the session. [Full Text]
