A coal mine tragedy happened in Shanxi on Sunday when at least 74 mine workers lost their lives after a mine blast, via the New York Times:
The miners were working in the Tunlan Coal Mine in Shanxi Province, the coal mining heartland of China, when the blast occurred at 2:17 a.m., Xinhua reported. The mine is located in Gujiao City and is run by the Shanxi Coking Coal Group.
At the time of the explosion, 436 people were working underground. Rescue workers told the agency that 114 miners had been hospitalized, with six listed in critical condition. The injured miners were suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning.
