Govt Targets Online Maps

From Global Times:

Those who upload maps to the Internet that display sensitive military locations may be in breach of laws prohibiting disclosure of State secrets, the State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping (SBSM) said, adding that authorities are strengthening the supervision of such services on the Internet.

Officials said that although Internet maps are popular, it is a problem if they include sensitive information such as location of army bases.

Song Chaozhi, deputy director of SBSM, said in an interview with China Central Television that obtaining geographical information about classified military facilities is a breach of regulations.

Song said authorities would improve related laws and regulations for map management, which will be released this year.
