A submarine suspected of being a Chinese nuclear sub reportedly entered Japanese waters. According to Kyodo News: “The intrusion prompted the Japanese government to order the Maritime Self-Defense Force to take security action for only the second time ever, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hiroyuki Hosoda said. P-3C patrol planes from the MSDF detected and are tracking the submarine, which entered Japanese territorial waters off a chain of islets in Okinawa in the early morning but left soon afterward, Hosoda told a press conference. ” The full report is here.
Meanwhile, China slammed Japan for calling it a threat: “China’s Foreign Ministry rejected Tuesday the Japanese Defense Agency’s reported statements calling China a military threat and disputed the spread of reports that Japan is setting up a system to gather intelligence on Chinese warships,” according to a report on Japan Today.
