On a visit to Beijing, Russian energy minister Viktor Khristenko said a price debate is at the center of Sino-Russian talks aimed at securing natural gas and oil for China.High prices paid by Europeans for Russian natural gas are complicating ongoing energy negotiations between China and Russia, although Moscow’s energy minister is upbeat about cooperation with Chinese oil companies.
The minister, Viktor Khristenko, told reporters this week in Beijing that price issues are the biggest obstacles to bilateral energy agreements between the neighboring countries. China’s nascent natural gas market is currently commanding about US$ 70 per cubic meter – far below the US$ 125 per cubic meter paid on Russia’s domestic market and US$ 200 offered by European Union buyers.
