China has evacuated most of its citizens from Chad after an outbreak of violence in the country’s capital, the Foreign Ministry said Sunday.
Hundreds of rebels charged into the capital N’Djamena and clashed with government troops around the presidential palace Saturday in the most forceful attempt yet to oust President Idriss Deby.
“Due to the current circumstances in Chad, the Chinese Embassy in Chad has organized and helped all the staff of Chinese companies in Chad to safely evacuate to Cameroon,” the ministry said in a statement.
