The article reports, “Chinese security agencies are continuing arrests of activists seeking official forgiveness of participants in the pro-democracy demonstrations in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square and elsewhere in China that were suppressed with massacres from the night of June 3-4, 1989.”
As the 15th anniversary of Tiananmen approaches, the government appears bent on trying to stifle any citizen initiatives to overturn the official verdict that the demonstrators were counterrevolutionary and that the crackdown was justified.
The article reports that “a young environmental and HIV/AIDS activist, Hu Jia, was arrested in Beijing on Saturday and remains out of contact on all his telephone numbers.”
