A Beijing hospital tried for failing to treat a migrant worker, who died on site – Liu Shuyuan

From Heilongjiang Morning Post, via sina.com (in Chinese), translated by CDT (link):

A lawsuit brought against Tongren Hospital in Beijing for failing to treat a migrant worker last December was heard recently. The migrant worker from Heilongjiang, Wang Jianmin, was sent to the hospital late last year around midnight for stomach ache. Without cash, the emergency department refused to treat him. His friend escorted him out. A couple of days later, they came back to the same hospital for help. Wang was simply looked at for a while and the doctor said no problem and left him unattended at the corridor, where he died later that day.

It is expected the the court which heard the case will rule in three months. But there are a number of irregularities during the trial. For example, totally six slots of attendance from the public were all denied to Wang’s family members; hospital officials tried to dissuade a night shift guard, who witnessed what happened, from appearing in court to testify; a reporter who sneaked into the trial room was yelled out by a hospital official.
