Wumart, the largest retailer in Beijing, said on Monday its chairman and founder stepped down last week because he was assisting the government with an investigation.

Zhang Wenzhong, who set up the supermarket chain in 1994, resigned because he could not continue his role as chairman while the probe was continuing, the company said on Monday.

However, he will remain on the board and Wumart said it was possible he would return to an executive role once the investigation was completed.[Full Text]
