China Executes Ethnic Muslim Semed – Alexa Olesen

China executed an ethnic Muslim from the country’s restive far western region for alleged separatist activities, a U.S. broadcaster said Friday.

Chinese authorities say militants among the Uighurs _ Turkic-speaking Muslims _ are leading a violent Islamic separatist movement in the region and are seeking to set up an independent state of “East Turkistan.”

Rebiya Kadeer, a Chinese Muslim from Xinjiang now living in exile in the U.S., said in a separate statement that the case against Semed lacked credible evidence. [Full Text]
