Cyber-dissident in solitary confinement

Web activist Huang Qi was temporarily moved into solitary confinement recently following an attempted visit to him by French media watchdog Reporters Without Borders. The Chinese government imprisoned Huang Qi over two years ago for allowing his website to become a forum for political and religious dialogue. In recent months, China has intensified attacks on Internet dissent, despite the appearance of relaxation with situations like Internet dissident Liu Di’s release. Although the 23-year-old’s release is a positive development, Reporters Without Borders reminds, “It should not be allowed to (overshadow) the fact that dozens of Internet users and cyber-dissidents languish in jails in China.”
