How High-tech Investors see China in 2003

Here is an article called “Top 10 Tech Stories Reveal Fast-Changing Landscape” on the Investor’s Business Daily. “China’s rise” was ranked the third story.

China’s stature in the tech world grew in two ways in 2003. First, more manufacturing shifted to the country, which has quickly emerged as a chip and electronics powerhouse.

Second, China’s consumers are making their presence known. The country stands to become the biggest market for personal computers and cellular phones.

The number of Internet users in China remained small compared with the U.S. But their ranks are growing fast. The country has 78 million Net users, up from 68 million a few months ago. With a population of 1.3 billion, China’s potential as a market seems limitless.
