Along with the new-found riches from its expanding economy, China has responsibilities in areas such as counterfeit goods and human rights, Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown warned.
While Brown’s three-day trip to China has been largely focused on boosting Sino-British trade, the chancellor had some tough words for his hosts.
Brown was particularly worried about the amount of counterfeit cigarettes manufactured in China and smuggled abroad, often far more dangerous than their legitimate equivalents, he said in the eastern city of Shanghai.
