China lowers GDP to stress on sustainable development

Challenged by a larger population, more people without jobs and an aging society, China has lowered its 2005 GDP growth projection in an effort to stress on concerted and sustainable development, reports Xinhua.

Towards this end, provincial governments across China have adjusted their annual economic growth projections downward to cool their economies and make them more efficient and environmentally friendly.

Tianjin Mayor Dai Xianglong said China was facing challenges from the widening income gap between rural and urban dwellers.
