Shanghai Media Group wins Net TV licence

China’s main broadcast authority says it has issued entertainment conglomerate Shanghai Media Group the country’s first license for TV broadcasts via the internet, known as .

The license gives state-owned SMG the right to broadcast programs on the Internet and via mobile phone networks, the State Administration of Radio, Film and TV said in a statement on its website.

At the same time, the broadcast watchdog said it was stepping step up oversight of the fast developing new digital entertainment market.
