Shanghai Media Group wins Net TV licence

From the South China Morning Post, via Asia Media:

China’s main broadcast authority says it has issued entertainment conglomerate Shanghai Media Group the country’s first license for TV broadcasts via the internet, known as IPTV.

The license gives state-owned SMG the right to broadcast programs on the Internet and via mobile phone networks, the State Administration of Radio, Film and TV said in a statement on its website.

At the same time, the broadcast watchdog said it was stepping step up oversight of the fast developing new digital entertainment market.
