Koh Chin Ling : Are pastures greener in China?

From The International Herald Tribune:

China Mengniu Dairy and Inner Mongolia Yili Industrial, China’s biggest milk suppliers, are lending money to farmers and building dairies to meet demand for cheese, yogurt and other foods growing at 14 percent a year.

China’s Inner Mongolia region, where the two companies are based, plans to import heifers from Australia to increase dairy cattle numbers by 14 percent to 2.5 million in the next six months, said Bai Enhou, deputy director general of the region’s Development and Reform Commission. Inner Mongolia, in northern China, had 1 million cows four years ago, he said.
