A small victory for public opinion? – Chinaelections

From Chinaelections.org:

Last October, an education bureau official in Pengshui County, Chongqing Municipality, was arrested for circulating a satirical poem via his cell phone and an online bbs (for detailes of the case in English, see Chinese man arrested for satirical poem about officials and An amateur poet, a bank thief and many heads of states China This Week ). Lan Qinghua, party secretary of Pengshui, who apparently ordered this official’s arrest, was subsequently dismissed from his post. Before the ChineseYear, he was transferred to Chongqing and appointed deputy director of the Municipal Bureau of Statistics. This decision has caused an outrage both online and in the print media. Yesterday, the mayor of Chongqing had to explain why Lan Qinghua was transferred to a different position. Huang Qifan, deputy mayor of Chongqing also offered a tepid defence at the office of the State Council Press Office in Beijing (for details, see ÈáçÂ∫ÜÂ∏ÇÈïøÁéãÈ∏ø‰∏æËߣÈáäÂΩ≠Ê∞¥ÂéüÂéøÂßî‰π¶ËÆ∞Âπ≥Á∫߉ªªËÅåÂéüÂõ†). Could we say this is a small victory for the media? To read more about this case in Chinese, click here.
