Work Units and Individuals Not Allowed To Fabricate Or Spread False Information About Sudden Incidents – Xinhua

This announcement from the official Xinhua news agency website is very short, and was just posted on netease.com today, translated by CDT:

According to a Xinhua report from June 24, 2007, the draft law on responding to sudden incidents was reviewed on June 24 and made clear: No work unit or company or individual is allowed to fabricate false information about the development of sudden incidents and emergency response work, or spread such information knowing it is false.

The original Chinese text is here. Here are some immediate comments from netizens posted under this short “news” item:

* “More praising songs than people’s voices; this makes people angry but they dare not to speak out. The dictators’ hearts are getting more and more arrogant and rigid” – Chinese traditional text.”

* Hah, The State Statistics Bureau has no more news to issue. I suggest that the Bureau just be eliminated.

* No Party, no government agencies, no officials, no media should cover up the truth of sudden incidents, deceiving citizens.

* What about not releasing true information? Is that dereliction? I want to draft it into law.
