Shenzhen to Monitor Major Polluters in Real-time by Year-end – Southern Daily

It’s been learned from a working conference on managing major polluters by Shenzhen’s environmental protection bureau that the city plans to standardize the management of major polluters and hopefully it will be able to monitor the key polluting plants in real-time.

Participating in the conference were 177 companies of major concern, including industries of power, printing and dying, food processing, chemicals, sewage treatment, etc. They are all big-time polluters of national, provincial or municipal levels, accounting for 80% of Shenzhen’s total industrial waste water discharge, and more than 90% of carbon dioxide emissions.

It’s also learned that some of these firms have been giving falsified pollutant emission records and using substandard discharge pipelines. [Full Text in Chinese]
