At The Washington Post, U.C. Berkeley’s Center for Digital TV and The World presents a series of interviews with passers-by on America, Sino-U.S. relations, and how China’s rise will affect them.
“In my lifetime, in this era, we cannot catch up to America,” said an elderly man in military uniform. “We cannot catch up. In so many ways, we cannot catch up, in compassion, morality and law …. China does not keep its word. That’s how I feel. It is not like America, which truly serves the people.” Another interviewee offered a more mixed picture of the U.S.: “Obama … hmmm … KFC, and … Patriot missiles. Also, cowboys. And the Statue of Liberty.”
