Badiucao (巴丢草): The Truth Behind

Badiucao (巴丢草): The Truth Behind

For this week’s contribution, cartoonist Badiucao honors the 1989 protests. His interpretation of Tiananmen Gate is flanked by the Goddess of Democracy statue, erected by protesters 25 years ago. Hidden behind the Mao portrait is a tank, similar to those used to open fire on protesters on June 4, 1989. For more on the protests and subsequent crackdown, see CDT’s series of original news articles posted chronologically.
