After many days since the discovery of virtual slavery at brick kilns in Shanxi and other regions throughout China, a high CCP official has finally apologized. Many officials faced public criticism when pictures of them playing cards during the national crisis surfaced on the net. From SignonSandiego.com:
The governor of a Chinese province at the center of a slave labor scandal has made a formal admission of error before the country’s premier, becoming the first high-ranking official to suffer consequences over the abuses.
Yet, Internet-fueled outrage over the scandal also bubbled anew with the appearance of photographs of Communist Party disciplinary officials in the region where the scandal erupted playing cards during work hours.
“Just at a time when the whole country is closely following the brick kiln incident, those responsible for investigating are playing cards during work hours,” said a story appearing on the Web site of the party’s official newspaper, the People’s Daily. [Full text]
