China dam imageChina’s primary environmental authority says it has secured the agreement of the country’s largest dam developer to modify the construction of part of the Three Gorges project and another large hydropower station following a dispute over the enforcement of environmental standards.
The State Environmental Protection Administration in Beijing announced Wednesday that eight projects that had been defying its order to halt building in recent days had now assented to report on the environmental impact of their developments.
The eight projects include the US$5.4bn Xiluodu hydropower project, flanking a number of provinces in south-west China, one of the country’s largest public works, and also two developments which form part of the massive Three Gorges dam.
