Ford Motor Co. and DaimlerChrysler AG said they will sell vehicles and components to their ventures in China, part of a bulk export of U.S. products to close a record trade gap between the two economies.
Ford will sell components, Escape and Lincoln Navigator sport-utility vehicles to China, according to a statement by the Dearborn, Michigan-based carmaker, without saying how many units will be shipped. DaimlerChrysler said it will sell 1,500 Chrysler 300C luxury sedans to China, without giving a value.
The export order, signed yesterday in Los Angeles during a visit by Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi, is part of a move to soothe U.S. concern of China’s record $201.6 billion trade surplus against the world’s largest economy. Wu, with more than 200 executives from 111 Chinese companies on her trip, also agreed to buy Microsoft Corp.’s Windows software and U.S. soybeans.
