More and more dissidents have been put in jail for writings and suffering for deteriorating health in recent years, and human rights laywers are calling out to international organizations, American and EU leaders to put more pressure on the Chinese authorities to win freedom of these people, with the approaching of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Yang Tianshui (杨天水), a Nanjing writer who was sentenced for 12 years for his dissident writing, is only allowed to spend 30 yuan, or $4, a month and makes slipper sole or basketball skin in prison, jobs that make them inhale toxic gases. His sister, upon visiting, was not permitted to pass on food or medicine to Yang, how is a diabetes patient and also has a back problem.
Other prisoned writers include Beijing’s He Depu (‰ΩïÂæ∑ÊôÆ), who was given an 8-year term for organizing a democratic party, Anhui writer Zhang Lin (º†Êûó), Guizhou journalist Li Yuanlong (ÊùéÂÖÉÈæô), and soon-to-be-tried Zhejiang freelancer Li Hong (ÂäõËôπ) and Zhejiang democratic party organizer Chen Shuqing (ÈôàʆëÂ∫Ü), etc. [Full Text in Chinese]
