Cultural Jamming of the 10th Anniversary of Handover – Hegel Chong

From Reading China blog:

A Hong Kong cultural jammer, Lam Kei, rewrote the lyrics of the theme song for the 10th anniversary of the resumption of Hong Kong to China’s sovereignty. He/she changed the song title into “Fuk Kai! Just because of you!” (Á¶è‰Ω≥ÂßãÁµÇÊúâ‰Ω†). In Cantonese, “Fuk Kai” sounds similar to “Pok Kai”, a dirty word equivalent to “Assholes”. Using digital effect and human vocies, he/she composed a soundtrack of this song.

He/she made a music video clip of this song and put it onto Youtube. On May 28, it became the most viewed Hong Kong clip about news and politics in Chinese. Over 98,691 viewers had watched it within three days. The government also uploaded its official version “Just because of you” to Youtube in April. But it only attracted 20,177 viewers. [Full Text]
