It’s Showtime: PE Funds Turn to Entertainment – Yang Binbin, Chenzhong Xiaolu and Wang Zhen

China’s movie, animation and TV producers are tapping the cash resources of private equity funds, which in turn are raising the industry’s professional standards and hopes for the future. From Caijing.com.cn:

One company is roaring into the entertainment industry with grand plans to become the Disney of China. Another is pursuing dreams by tapping the expertise of former Hollywood executives. Indeed, there is no shortage of ambition among the movie, animation and TV production companies shooting for the stars in China’s entertainment industry.

After growing rapidly over the past year, China’s PE funds are increasingly turning to entertainment for targeted investments. Entertainment – especially moviemaking – currently trails only the Internet, IT sector and energy resource ventures as a draw for PE funds. [Full Text]
