Mattel Boss Visits China to Calm Safety Fears – James Quinn

The Telegraph reports:

Chief executive Robert Eckert is to visit the Asian economic powerhouse later this month to ensure sub-contractors are implementing a tough new set of safety guidelines Mattel has imposed.

Mattel’s reputation has suffered in the last two months after it has been forced to recall millions of products on three separate occasions, sparked by fears that some toys made in China contained small parts and lead paint.

Mr Eckert told a Congressional committee that his visit to China, the specific dates for which have yet to be announced, would allow to discuss his action plans with local managers. [Full text]
