After more than two months of mostly peaceful protest for full universal suffrage in Hong Kong, protesters escalated their actions on Sunday by surrounding government office buildings in the Admiralty district, to which police responded with batons and pepper spray. Protest organizers apologized for the violence and affirmed their determination to continue demonstrations, while Hong Kong authorities have promised to continue clearing protest sites.
真Since directives are sometimes communicated orally to journalists and editors, who then leak them online, the wording published here may not be exact. The date given may indicate when the directive was leaked, rather than when it was issued. CDT does its utmost to verify dates and wording, but also takes precautions to protect the source.
