China Fights EU Shoe Duty – Andrew Bounds

From Financial Times:

Chinese shoemakers on Wednesday said they would sue the European Union over anti-dumping duties imposed on their products.

Four Chinese footwear companies will tell Europe’s second-highest court that the EU’s regulator failed to examine their prices properly. In October the EU applied a 16.5 per cent extra tariff on leather shoes from China and 10 per cent for those from Vietnam for two years after imports soared.

The complaint to the European Court of First Instance says the Commission erred in comparing prices in Brazil because the EU does not recognise China as a market economy. The procedure is allowed under World Trade Organisation rules.[Full Text]
