The Democratic Progressive Party’s (DPP) Central Executive Committee (CEC), in an extraordinary meeting yesterday, formalized the Central Standing Committee’s call for President Chen Shui-bian (ÈôàÊ∞¥ÊâÅ) to take over the party chairmanship after Yu Shyi-kun resigned on Monday.
Vice President Annette Lu (吕秀莲) and Premier Chang Chun-hsiung (张俊雄) joined in urging Chen to take over the chairmanship after the CEC unanimously passed the decision.
“Former chairman Yu insisted on resigning from his post. The DPP has no choice but to invite President Chen to lead us again to victory in the elections next year,” Lu said after the meeting. [Full Text]
