A worker for the Hon Hai manufacturing company, or Foxconn, has jumped to her death, making her the sixth employee of the company to commit suicide this year. Hon Hai is the world’s largest manufacturer of electronics and makes many products for Apple, Dell, Hewlett Packard, and many other companies. From Bloomberg:
The 24-year-old assembly line worker, was from Henan province in eastern central China and had been working at the Shenzhen factory since August, the Taipei-based company, also known as Foxconn Technology Group, said in an e-mailed statement today. Local police are investigating the death, it said.
The worker, identified only by the surname Zhu, was on holiday, according to the statement. Hon Hai learned from local police that the suicide was related to personal matters, it said.
The suicide marks the sixth such death at Hon Hai this year, China’s state-run Xinhua News Agency reported today, citing unidentified company officials and local police. Hon Hai said in July last year it suspended a security official at one of its affiliates after a worker killed himself when an Apple Inc. iPhone prototype went missing.
