Pressure rises faster with income – Shanghai Daily

From China Economic Net (link):

Chinese people said they felt a heavier burden compared to 10 years ago, a survey by China Youth Daily and Sina.com said yesterday, although 78.8 percent of them said that their personal incomes have risen in the same period. The survey, covering 7,625 people, said that 85.3 percent felt increased pressures.

The report questioned the accuracy of China’s official inflation rate, or consumer price index (CPI), which was released by the National Bureau of Statistics. Based on the official CPI data, prices haven’t risen much from 1996 to 2005 and the rate was far slower than the growth rate of people’s disposable incomes.
