Dr. Gao Yaojie, the 80-year-old veteran AIDS fighter and national hero, was recently barred by the local government from going to Beijing to get her US visa to receive an award from US senator Hillary Clinton.
Here in the second part of the video series, Gao talks about government lying and a tug-of-war with her husband, who was “coerced” to stand behind Gao despite opposition. She takes notes after each trip, providing first hand fodder for her books, published in a total of 1 million copies, that serve to educate the public. “My thought is to make fewer people of our nation die from AIDS,” Gao says. She is also upset about Chinese media, who only show up around the AIDS day.
