Today China has opened up its economy in all but the most sensitive areas to reap the benefits of free markets. But to avoid jeopardizing its newfound economic power, the country must find ways to reverse the effects of decades of rampant pollution and join the international community in striking the right balance between wealth generation and environmental protection.
