Premier Wen Jiabao said Monday that China needed to stop wasting energy and care more for the environment as its booming economy continues to soar. China is one of the most polluted countries in the world and last year missed official targets to cut pollution and improve environmental efficiency — a situation Wen said would have to change.Wen also hinted that inattention to land conservation could threaten the nation’s food security situation, and called for better implementation of land-use policies.
“On the issue of land, we cannot afford to make a historical mistake that cannot be corrected, one that will seriously harm future generations,” he said. [Full Text]
