Wang Jin-pyng Seems Ready to Keep Job – David Young

Ma Ying-jeou, Kuomintang candidate for president, is beginning to look for a new running mate in earnest, as Wang Jin-pyng is all but certain to turn down his offer to join his ticket.

At the urging of Kuomintang chairman Wu Po-hsiung, Ma and Wang, president of the Legislative Yuan, agreed in April they would be each other’s running mate, if either is nominated for 2008.

A former Kuomintang chairman, Ma is just keeping his side of the bargain, but Wang doesn’t want to accept the offer. Meanwhile, opposition party leaders turned out in droves yesterday to stress the critical role their joint ticket will play in the presidential race. [Full Text]
