Winter has unquestionably arrived in northern China. According to weather data from Xinhua, temperatures in some northern areas have fallen by as much as 14 degrees centigrade in recent weeks. Bitter though it may be, the icy temperatures have at least one advantage: The arrival of rime or wusong (雾凇 ) on the banks of the Songhua River in Jilin City. Wusong is a yearly phenomenon, the result of steam from nearby power plants freezing on local trees, and said to be a popular winter delicacy for domestic and foreign tourists. Photos from Xinhua:
