A court in Henan Province in China has jailed the leader of one of the country’s largest underground Christian churches for seven and a half years, Hong Kong’s RTHK radio reported Saturday.

Quoting the China Aid Association, a group based in the United States that monitors religious freedom in China, RTHK said the church leader, Zhang Rongliang, had been convicted of fraudulently obtaining a passport and crossing a border illegally. Mr. Zhang had been arrested several times before, serving a total of 12 years in prison for organizing church activities, according to the international human rights group Amnesty International. The group said he had been tortured in prison. [Full Text]
