A website run by Chinese lawyers advocating greater constitutional protections was closed down over the weekend. Essays on the site, Open Constitution Initiative, had recently called for the release of the Southern Metropolis News editors, claiming that the charges against them did not have any legal basis. The site was closed down a day before the appeal hearing in the case.
