From The Age: “Police and security agents were out in force in Beijing yesterday to block political gatherings after the death of Zhao Ziyang, the Communist Party leader who opposed the use of troops against democracy activists in Tiananmen Square more than 15 years ago.
Mr Zhao, who was 85, died early yesterday morning in a Beijing hospital after a series of strokes. He had been in a coma since Friday. The official Xinhua news agency confirmed his death in a terse two-paragraph report a few hours later.”
