This is a comment on the KMT* delegation’s visit to the Mainland, from the Nanfang Daily (in Chinese), via the Press Interpreter, translated by Adrian Lu:
The KMT’s vice chairman Jiang Bingkun led a KMT delegation to the Mainland starting on March 28, visiting Guangzhou, Nanjing, and Beijing. This was the first time in 56 years that the KMT has formally visited the Mainland. The historical significance of this event is exceptional and will have positive effects on the healthy development of Taiwan-Mainland relations.
Jiang Bingkun characterized this visit as a “trip for cherishing the past.” Certainly, this year marks the 94th anniversary of the Guangzhou Yellow Flower Ridge Uprising and the 80th anniversary of KMT Founder Sun Yatsen‘s death. However, as the party that formerly controlled all of China, and as Taiwan’s largest opposition party, the KMT’s special delegation for “cherishing the past” has extremely unusual meaning.
