Hunan girl’s death `not from bird flu’ – Chester Yung

Flu From The Standard:

The 12-year-old girl who died from flu- like symptoms after apparently eating a sick chicken in a village in Hunan province was not infected with bird flu, a mainland health official said.

Hunan health department spokesman Kang Ping said Thursday “preliminary” blood samples taken from the girl and her 10-year-old brother, who also fell ill but survived, “ruled out the possibility of bird flu.”

Both had contracted pneumonia, Kang said.
