Beijing to pay market price for farmland seizures - Mure Dickie

China is moving to protect rural residents against the demands of rapacious officials and developers by drawing up plans to reform the rules governing state requisitions of farmers’ land.

The reform would introduce a “market mechanism” for compensation payments for farmland seized for commercial use, said Du Ying, a deputy minister of China’s powerful National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).
