The Great Wall of China was chosen as one of the “seven endangered wonders in the world” by the western media, and there can be no delay for the protection of the Great Wall. Recently, a fund-raising campaign called “Protect the Great Wall, Love our Home” was held at the Shanhai Pass, a world cultural heritage site. Dong Yaohui, Vice President and Secretary General of the China Great Wall Society (CGWS) , revealed in an interview that a “milestone” program will be launched to protect the Great Wall. Based on the program, the international community will be given a chance to contribute to the protection of the Great Wall. The protection cost for each kilometer of the Great Wall will amount to 10,000 yuan (US$1,250) to 20,000 yuan (US$2,500) with a minimum protection time limit of five years. The profile of the contributors will be marked at the relevant section of the Great Wall, and will appear on stamps, first-day covers and commemorative albums. [Full Text]
