Liao Yiwu: Who Sings Sadly in the Deep Forest on a Moonlit Night? (Music Video)

Earlier this spring, lawyer Teng Biao (who recently wrote an op-ed in the Washington Post) posted the text of a poem which poet Liao Yiwu performed in Beijing:

Who sings sadly in the deep forest on a moonlit night? Posted by Teng Biao on 05-13-09 谁在月夜的深林里悲歌 (Teng’s blog on blog.sina.com.cn is already  censored)

歌 A Sad Song

(Liao Yiwu)

月夜穿过丛林,

想起我的爱人,

长眠在寂静的黄土,

远方传来了枪声。

The moonlit night passes through the forest

I think of the one I love

Buried under silent earth

From afar I hear a gunshot.

当年热血沸腾,

肩挑祖国命运,

如今空空的双拳,

岁月折断了刀刃。

That year I burned with passion

Shouldering  the destiny of my country

Up to today’s two empty hands

The years have broken the knife’s edge.

月夜穿过回忆,

想起我的爱人,

生者我流浪中老去,

死者你永远年轻。

The moonlit night passes through memory

I think of the one I loved

Alive, I grow old in wandering,

Dead, you are forever young.
