China Unicom has signed a three-year deal with Apple Inc. to distribute the latter’s iPhone handsets on the mainland, according to an Aug. 28 statement by China’s second biggest mobile carrier.
China Unicom (SSE:600050; HKEX:0762; NYSE:CHU) confirmed that it will launch the iPhone 3G and 3GS versions in the fourth quarter.
Company chairman Chang Xiaobing told a media briefing in Hong Kong the same day that the handset price will be “competitive.”
Citing a person close to the deal, Caijing reported on Aug. 27 that both parties had agreed on the handset price and the size of the order.
