Wu Hao (伍皓), deputy director of the Yunnan Province Propaganda Department, has received a great deal of attention for his controversial efforts to interact online with netizens and give Chinese government policies a kinder, gentler spin. His supporters argue that he is an example of a more enlightened official, while his critics say he merely represents an increasingly sophisticated online propaganda effort. Many netizens are using sometimes creative ways to express their opinions about his work; an audience member recently showered him with fifty-cent bills during a university speech to protest pro-government Internet commentators, otherwise known as the “fifty cent party”. Like the content of the Chinese Internet itself Wu Hao can be better understood not just by the words that appear online, but by the ones that are removed. On Sina Weibo, a Twitter equivalent, Wu Hao wrote a post in late March explaining his position on Google which received numerous reader comments. Wu Hao has already deleted this from his microblog, but some diligent person kept a record from here before it was deleted:
CDT has translated the full exchange below:
A Transcript from the Sina Microblog of Wu Hao, Yunnan’s Vice Minister of Propaganda
From WU Hao’s “The Wu’s Daughter is Growing Up Microblog”
Wu Hao: Polite warning: I’m willing to take any criticism that people might put out on my microblog. But I’m not going to take crap from traitors. This is what I stated months ago and there’s no way I’m going to change my position here. If you want to fawn over Google’s stinky feet, then wag your tail between your legs and go begging in Washington. Their 50 cents are worth more than our 5 Yuan. [This is a reference to the 50 Cent Party. A person who belongs to the 50 Cent Party is said to get paid 0.5 RMB by the government for each pro-government comment they post on the internet. Wu Hao is sarcastically joking that those who write pro-Google comments do so, not for ideological reasons, but because they get a better rate from the American government. For more about the 50 Cent Party, see here] So go! Stop bullshitting on my territory. If you guys see this kind of crap, help me clean it up. I’ll of course clean it up too. (43 minutes ago)
(Note: unless otherwise indicated, all comments below are directed towards Minister Wu who began the thread by writing the comment above.)
Wangdahao: I want to know how you got your name. (43 minutes ago)
Dudiaowengershi: Then are you also going to take a grass mud horse? (sounds like “f*** your mom”) (43 minutes ago)
skytiger: Grass mud horse! Hurry and shut off your computer and save electricity. Shouldn’t you be worrying more about addressing the drought? (Yunnan, the province where Minister Wu works, is experiencing a severe drought.) (43 minutes ago)
Wangjingchen: (42 minutes ago)
snowyowls: Grass mud horse, hurry and shut off your computer and save electricity. Shouldn’t you be worrying more about addressing the drought? (42 minutes ago)
Laolutongzhi [old Comrade Lu]: I don’t get it, their 50 cents are more than our 5 Yuan…Lol. (42 minutes ago)
Sijiermo: Grass mud horse, hurry and shut off your computer and save electricity. Shouldn’t you be worrying more about addressing the drought? (42 minutes ago)
Pitousi: Up yours! (42 minutes ago)
Jiamao: So am I a traitor? Are you going to erase my differing opinion? I guess you can’t but help revealing your C(ommunist) P(arty) way of doing things. (42 minutes ago)
Yuanfushengxinhao: Who’s the real traitor here? Go wag your tail between your legs and beg your masters in Beijing. It looks like you’re just another one of those types that stomp all over and persecute those in the motherland. (41 minutes ago)
Merlin877: Woh Woh Woh Woh Woh… (41 minutes ago)
Yanhuamoxiang [red-light district]: forward this microblog. (41 minutes ago)
Qianbijiaozhu [founder of the pencil faith]: Don’t you know how much Baidu sucks? Have you even ever used Google?? Why don’t you go help your drought people. (41 minutes ago)
Acthinair: You’re being watched. Bet you won’t sleep tonight. Let’s everyone spend the night around the fire chatting about Google. (41 minutes ago)
Sijiermo: Grass mud horses, you guys are like performance artists, keep up the onslaught! (41 minutes ago)
Daole: Number 5 (homonym for Minister Wu’s name), the Party Central Committee is calling you home for dinner! (Note: this comment follows the form of a legendary internet comment in China that was posted after a boy named Jia Junpeng (贾君鹏) spent so much time on the internet that his mother had to have the boy’s friends use the internet to call him home for dinner.) (41 minutes ago)
JayLeo: If your peehole’s crooked don’t complain that the urinal was in the wrong place. First take a look at yourself. (41 minutes ago)
Lilang: Oh, sorry. I originally just wanted to see what Minister Wu would say. I’m definitely checking out now. Goodbye Minister Wu. Let me ask you Minister, are you under the State Council or do you just directly take orders from the Party Committee? (41 minutes ago)
Yefengyunlong [maple leaf cloud dragon]: No matter what differing opinion you might have, one thing is essential. You have to love the country. You have to fervently love the motherland. (41 minutes ago)
Qianbijiaozhu: I guess he’s not embarrassed to fart in his own microblog space. (40 minutes ago)
Maladuanzi: Wow, what a guy! I bet he’s going to get a promotion, what a bright future he has! (41 minutes ago)
Suibianhuanghuang [just checking around]: Does fighting for free speech make you a traitor? Don’t frame everything as an issue of nationalism or patriotism. (41 minutes ago)
Yinyuexiaofeng [reciting the moon, calling the wind]: Number 5 (sounds the same as Wu Hao) has lost his senses. Keep watching. (41 minutes ago)
MimicryRyu: Minister: don’t forget to get your daughter immunized (This comment refers to contaminated immunizations that people blame government officials for not spotting earlier. See here) (41 minutes ago)
Shijienabuqiyandejiaoluo [that unremarkable corner of the world]: Forward this comment: I really look down on traitors. You can love the P(arty), you might not love the G(overnment) but you had best as H(ell) not go off about being unpatriotic. (41 minutes ago)
ZhanshinaDmeibanfa [currently unable to hold the Party]: You’re really hurting your career prospects by making comments like that. The government is not as opaque as you might think—merit does actually count. I’m afraid you won’t be looking to be promoted. (41 minutes ago)
Woshijiafeimaoa [I am the fattened cat]: You should get your esteemed self on over to the People’s Daily website. This isn’t quite the right place for you! Everyone else isn’t getting paid for posting comments, so there’s probably a bit too much honesty for you to handle. It must make you feel a bit of a chill. (41 minutes ago)
Voiceasa: I partially support and partially oppose the Minister’s comments. (41 minutes ago)
123456yq: There’s no need to be this way. We’re all comrades. If you keep at it then there will be some serious “contradictions among the people.” Comrades, cool it. (41 minutes ago)
Shaoxi: There’s no 50 centers here. (41 minutes ago)
Yiyang1 [praise and censure 1]: Grass mud horse, you’re the one being a classic traitor. (41 minutes ago)
PandaKongfu: I guess the Minister has finally revealed his true vicious self. (40 minutes ago)
Jiangjiangjiang: Haha, having a great time imagining the blind rage this is putting the threadmaster (Wu Hao) into. (40 minutes ago)
MimicryRyu: Everyone should all report the Minister for writing profanity and insulting fellow netizens. (40 minutes ago)
Maladuanzi: Man, what a retard. (40 minutes ago)
Xiaoxiapi [little dried shrimp]: Man Minister, you must have eaten some crazy shit to have spoken so well. (40 minutes ago)
Zuojingguanwan: Little Minister, little minister, aren’t you a bit out of your league. I’m laughing and I’m speechless. (40 minutes ago)
Pingchangfanxin [ordinary worldly desires]: The word for traitor, hanjian, originally referred to one who betrayed the Han ethnicity. Later the word was used to refer to any Chinese national who aided the enemy and sold out the country and the people’s interests. So who is it that’s harming the nation’s interests now? Who is the real traitor here? The most revolting traitors are those who hold aloft the flag of “patriotism.” (40 minutes ago)
Bonjourcasper: China truly needs those who have a conscience and love their country… (40 minutes ago)
bolee: I didn’t know that Minister Wu was such a total thug!! (40 minutes ago)
dennisshuo: Is it really the case that their 50 cents are worth more than our 5 yuan? Or is it the case that Minister Wu knows something about currency speculation that we don’t know? (40 minutes ago)
Suyule: Google is just a company that has a little idealism. Pinning one’s lofty hopes on Google is a bit ridiculous. I really don’t get why so many people are so infatuated with Google. Google has also assumed an air of self-important innocence, it’s just a company, who does it think it is holding talks with the government. (40 minutes ago)
Jiangjiangjiang: Was that really Wu Hao, or was his account hacked into? (40 minutes ago)
Houxiandaizhuyi [postmodernism]: When you talk about “traitors” are you talking about those who betray their people or are you just talking about those who betray the Party? Once you hit university did you stop differentiating between the People and the Party? (40 minutes ago)
Qieqie: How does supporting Google make you equal to a traitor. Pretty fuzzy logic seems to me. (40 minutes ago)
Sujie: Man, there’s nothing that can be said to that. (40 minutes ago)
Kongzhongdehexie [river crab in the air (the river crab is a symbol for censorship)]: Forward this comment: You’re the biggest f-ing traitor there is. (40 minutes ago)
Lilang: What kind of department is the propaganda department anyway. How can it ride over the police, procuratorates, courts and news departments when those are actual government agencies. How can it launch this crusade against the news media and the internet? While it’s true that the ruling party leads the country, how is it that one small department of the ruling party can ride above the government and the nation’s laws? (40 minutes ago)
Guanchazeren [observer’s duty]: Minister Wu, tell us who it is who is a traitor. Please provide us a definition. Is it that everyone sympathetic to Google is a traitor? If that’s the case then you can consider me a traitor too! (40 minutes ago)
Waixingren [crooked pedestrian, (pun on the word for alien)]: Whatever, since you’ve decided to turn your back on the People, go ahead and fawn over your master’s fragrant feet, go and pursue your dream of rising to great heights in the Celestial Empire. (40 minutes ago)
Zhangouya: ? @ Zhibingji: @“The Wu’s Daughter is Growing Up Microblog”: I was originally just going to go to sleep but I see that you’ve been bitching people out again. As a Minister you should be more careful about what you say! Don’t forget that you also have to beg for your food, if you displease your master you’ll find yourself in deep shit! Enough talk. Behave yourself! (40 minutes ago)
Motu: Man, you really are a disappointment to us all. (39 minutes ago)
Renminyuebao [(looks like) The People’s Daily]: This is not a “contradiction among the people” and this is not a “contradiction between the people and the enemy.” This is a contradiction between humankind and non-humankind. (These are distinctions made by Mao Zedong. “Contradictions” can also be translated as conflicts.) (39 minutes ago)
Ziyedetan: It’s not bad being a traitor if you’re the Minister! I’ll also be sure to keep my turf clean. If you guys see anyone bullshitting on my territory or mentioning #5 (homonym for Minister Wu) help me clean it up. I’ll of course clean it up too.//@bin193: let’s blacklist him. (39 minutes ago)
Yuanfushengxinhao: @ Zhangouya: Behave yourself! (39 minutes ago)
Zhuixuzhuhuan [chasing the void pursuing fantasy]: the Minister really does have a slave mentality. Everything is fawning this, begging that. His kind of mindset is incompatible with equality, freedom and dignity. (39 minutes ago)
Weichiayong: Well said everyone! I’m pretty ill-informed about the patriotism thing anyways. (39 minutes ago)
Shenzhenke [Shenzhen guest]: This is pretty horrific. Can it be that we’ve gone back to the late ‘60s? As an aside, I should inform Minister Wu, their 50 cents are not worth more than our 5 Yuan—the RMB has already increased in value! (39 minutes ago)
Heyahu: I really admire the Communist Party’s Party education. I really don’t give a damn if Google pulls out or not, all I want to know is on what basis the government filters the internet. Do they just filter whatever they happen to feel like filtering? Tell me, which law allows them to do this? (39 minutes ago)
Fujun: Then consider me a traitor too. You really are the P(arty’s) posterchild. (39 minutes ago)
Dafendefendifang: You’ve really shown how fucking worthless you are. (39 minutes ago)
acthinair: When people surround him and berate him, #5 (Wu Hao) can lash back. This is what is meant by microblogging equality. (39 minutes ago)
Beijinyandeniniliushi [the silenced Nini the Sixth]: Who’s the traitor here? Just look at how much you’ve screwed up this country. Look at the areas hit by the drought, the melamine kids (the children harmed by contaminated milk powder), the tofu construction kids (kids killed in the Sichuan earthquakes when their poorly-constructed schools collapsed), the kids messed up by the vaccinations. I guess you also have a daughter, but then again—aren’t you just going to send her to live abroad? Tell me then, who’s the real traitor? (39 minutes ago)
Laibolun: I absolutely support Minister Wu. I would hope that the Minister would invite Kong Qingdong and other scholars who are both well-informed and well-intentioned to come participate in this microblog discussion. There’s too much right-wing trash out there microblogging, they’re really misleading people who don’t know the truth. (39 minutes ago)
Yupuyong: Forward this comment: I firmly support Minister Wu. Traitors never have things turn out alright. They all die horrible deaths. (39 minutes ago)
Hetao: I’m disappointed in you Minister, extremely disappointed. (39 minutes ago)
Tianxikeji [Tianxi Technology]: “Stop bullshitting” on your “territory?” Show me your land deed, your property deed, your ID card, your temporary residence permit. (39 minutes ago)
supermariobro: Tell me about your mud horse (sounds like fuck your mom) From your post I can tell that not only are you a big fifty-center but that his mom thinks so too. (39 minutes ago)
Heyahu: The government is hiding stuff it doesn’t want other people to see. It’s just like the old saying: if you don’t do shameful things, you don’t have to worry about the devil knocking on your door. The information the government does everything to seal off is reflected just as clearly in everyone’s hearts and minds. (39 minutes ago)
Chongqingzhongxinghanjian [heavy-duty traitor from Chongqing]: How do you define traitor? Number 5, we don’t have a scrap of power in our hands, how could we even hope to be traitors? Who you have to worry about are Wen JB and them. (The writer is referring to Wen Jiabao whose initials, JB, happen to be a slang word for penis) Anyone know if they’ve signed any humiliating treaties lately? (like the unfair treaties China signed with foreign nations in the 19th century) (39 minutes ago)
gaofoto: We should be thrilled that the Celestial Empire has produced such a loyal minister. If there are more and more of these retards the Celestial Empire will really expand and grow—before of course going down in flames. (39 minutes ago)
Nosisy: Hmmm, I’m out. F**k. (39 minutes ago)
Fengzhishui: @Laibolun: You’re getting your left and right mixed up buddy. (39 minutes ago)
Sijiermo: Grass mud horses, you guys are like performance artists, keep up the onslaught! “Grass mud horse, hurry and shut off your computer and save electricity. Shouldn’t you be worrying more about addressing the drought?” @“The Wu’s Daughter is Growing Up Microblog” (39 minutes ago)
5ilunch: If you oppose Google then you’re a fifty-center. If you support Google then does that make you a green-backer?! Even so, who gives a damn, dollars are still worth more than RMB….. (39 minutes ago)
Dooo: Grass mud horse, hurry and shut off your computer and save electricity. Shouldn’t you be worrying more about addressing the drought? (39 minutes ago)
athrone: The two great disgraces to Peking University: Li Yanhong (co-founder of Baidu) and Wu Hao. (39 minutes ago)
Dafendefendifang: @ Laibolun: There’s nothing that can be said to dumbasses like yourself. (38 minutes ago)
Qidiranxiang: Is Minister Wu incapable of making the currency conversion?? Since when has one US dollar been equal to 10 RMB? (38 minutes ago)
Linsuisui: GooX is just a company, why are you all putting it on such a high pedestal? (38 minutes ago)
Zongtongzhenrenxiu: I get that you’re hired to “correctly guide public opinion” but you shouldn’t be so damned obvious about it. At least your logic should be able to hold water. I’d also like to ask Mr. Wu Hao, when your little precious pearl was a baby, did you give her Chinese milk powder or imported milk powder? At least tell us which brands you used. (Referring to the tainted milk powder scandal.) Thanks. (38 minutes ago)
Fakeyouershi [fuckyou the second]: F your mom. You really are the P(arty’s) precious little yap dog (37 minutes ago)
Chongqingzhongxinghanjian: And they let this blockhead be a government official. I’d cry if I had tears. (37 minutes ago)
Yale135: Aren’t you so intimidating! (37 minutes ago)
Luoben [streaking naked]: @Dooo: I totally agree. (referring to the comment that Wu Hao should turn off his computer and deal with the drought) (37 minutes ago)
Zhendejiabuliao [really can’t be fake]: //@ Beijinyandeniniliushi: Who’s the traitor here? Just look at how much you’ve screwed up this country. Look at the areas hit by the drought, the melamine kids, the tofu construction kids, the kids messed up by the vaccinations. I guess you also have a daughter, but then again—aren’t you just going to send her to live abroad? Tell me then, who’s the real traitor? (37 minutes ago)
Sijiermo: @Heyahu: Don’t even try to reason with him. It’s not like he’ll listen, even if he listens it’s not like he’ll understand, even if he understands it’s not like he’ll do anything about it. (37 minutes ago)
Xipo: “Their 50 cents are worth more than our 5 Yuan”……..It seems that the exchange rate between the dollar and the RMB isn’t quite this ratio. Are you confused or what? (37 minutes ago)
Heyahu: Actually, as a people we’ve regressed quite a bit. We don’t even question anymore the existence of internet filters. All that we want is an actual law that standardizes internet filtering—but they won’t even give us this. How has the government turned into such a bunch of thugs? (37 minutes ago)
Shenzhenke: By the way, let me ask, even though you’ve arisen to the lofty status of vice minister, just which chunk of the People’s Republic of China do you consider to be “your territory?” (37 minutes ago)
jiagm: Wu Hao, the late propaganda minister’s comment fully exposes the nature of his profession. (37 minutes ago)
Yizhouyiyue: Who are you calling a traitor? You haven’t done a damn thing and yet build yourself an honorific arch while you throw shit on everyone else! You really have picked up on the family traditions haven’t you!! (37 minutes ago)
Yale135: Who do you consider to be a traitor? Please provide us with a definition! (37 minutes ago)
Kongfuzi [Confucius]: You’re wrong here. Supporting or opposing Google is just an expression of one’s thoughts, it’s part of free speech. You can’t say that those who support Google are traitors, that’s not right. Using the word traitor does not help us be unified as a people. It just encourages a sort of narrow-minded nationalism. Also the word traitor literally means “one who betrays the Han people” but our country has a lot more ethnic groups than just the Han. What is a Tibetan supported Google, would you still call them a traitor, one who betrays the Han? (37 minutes ago)
Fantengaichengdu [fanteng loves Chengdu]: @ Chongqingzhongxinghanjian: Number 5, it looks like bloggers have quite a lot to say, everyone’s pretty into this, so I guess it’s not as boring as you would have thought. (37 minutes ago)
Sijiermo: Grass mud horses, you guys are like performance artists, keep up the onslaught! “Grass mud horse, hurry and shut off your computer and save electricity. Shouldn’t you be worrying more about addressing the drought?” @“The Wu’s Daughter is Growing Up Microblog” (36 minutes ago)
Heyahu: If the only reason you’re turning your back on the people’s basic universal rights is because you’re just afraid of appearing like you are bowing to Western values and ideology, then you’re heading straight for disaster. (36 minutes ago)
Buchengshuderen [immature person]: Is this your PARTY’s kind of democracy…hehe…You can’t tolerate differing opinion….huh>??? (35 minutes ago)
Weibojingdianyulu [classic microblog comment]: Google is the one with stinky feet? Minister Wu, you really are making a big ass out of yourself. And to think that I once thought so highly of you. (34 minutes ago)
Sesexiaoxiao: Can I ask what’s really going on with Google? What is it that makes you hate Google so much? (34 minutes ago)
Sijiermo: “Grass mud horses, you guys are like performance artists, keep up the onslaught!” Grass mud horse, hurry and shut off your computer and save electricity. Shouldn’t you be worrying more about addressing the drought? @“The Wu’s Daughter is Growing Up Microblog” (34 minutes ago)
Chengshizhengzhilizhi [honest, upright, reasonable]: with this kind of Minister, China is going down the pot. //@zhangouya:? @Zhibingji: @“The Wu’s Daughter is Growing Up Microblog”: I was originally just going to go to sleep but I see that you’ve bitched someone out again. As a Minister you should be more careful about what you say! Don’t forget that you also have to beg for your food, if you displease your master you’ll find yourself in deep shit! Enough talk. Behave yourself! (34 minutes ago)
Luoben: If it’s the case that you can accept any criticism, then send my regards to yo’ mama! (34 minutes ago)
Sijiermo: Grass mud horses, you guys are like performance artists, keep up the onslaught! “Grass mud horse, hurry and shut off your computer and save electricity. Shouldn’t you be worrying more about addressing the drought?” @“The Wu’s Daughter is Growing Up Microblog” (34 minutes ago)
Tianxikeji: @Kongfuzi: this is classic (34 minutes ago)
Jiagm: Can you believe how unintelligent this guy is? From what I understand the current exchange rate is 6.8 RMB to the dollar. Why on earth did the Minister say that its 10 to 1? (34 minutes ago)
Sijiermo: “Grass mud horses, you guys are like performance artists, keep up the onslaught!” Grass mud horse, hurry and shut off your computer and save electricity. Shouldn’t you be worrying more about addressing the drought? @ “The Wu’s Daughter is Growing Up Microblog” (34 minutes ago)
Dahezhiyuan [source of a great river]: Let me ask you Minister: are little kids who like to eat at McDonalds and KFC also traitors? What about those who license McDonalds and KFC to sell hamburgers in China, what do you call them? Wouldn’t they even be bigger traitors? (34 minutes ago)
Motu: I haven’t made any reactionary comments, so why the hell was I put on a blacklist? How annoying. (34 minutes ago)
xsir317: I guess he is named Wu after all. [Wu pronouns as same as “five”, which is also the first character of “fifty cents”]And to think this bastard represents Peking University. (34 minutes ago)
Aiweiwei: Watch the S13 (S13 looks like SB which stands for sha-B which roughly means “dumb ass.”) (33 minutes ago)
Honghuangzaiilook: I originally wanted to comment, but then I felt it really wasn’t worth it. (33 minutes ago)
Buzheter [not tossing and turning]: Google’s biggest problem is that it’s not even capable of betraying the country. Who said it’s all that easy to be a traitor? Haha! (33 minutes ago)
Shuiguopinpanwushi [fruit plate warrior]: Wu Hao’s Culture Bureau has always been on the cutting edge of censorship and brainwashing. Other traitors in comparison to Wu Hao are like the little 50 center looking up at the big 50 center. I strongly suspect Wu Hao is an imperialist special agent. (33 minutes ago)
Motu: Has the Minister’s account been hacked into, was that really him? (33 minutes ago)
Wuxingkuaiyuqishi //@zhangyumofashu://@beijinyandeniniliushi: Who’s the traitor here? Just look at how much you’ve screwed up this country. Look at the areas hit by the drought, the melamine kids, the tofu construction kids, the kids messed up by the vaccinations. I guess you also have a daughter, but then again—aren’t you just going to send her to live abroad? Tell me then, who’s the real traitor? (33 minutes ago)
Renminyuebao [(looks like) The People’s Daily]: If it’s the case that everyone who supports Google is a traitor then isn’t the next step to get all the public security experts together to chase people across province lines? This is not a “contradiction among the people,” this is not a “contradiction between the people and the enemy,” this is a contradiction between humanity’s universal values and a non-human dictatorship. (33 minutes ago)
198Q [(looks like 1989, the year of the Tiananmen Incident)]: So what you’re asking is that your friends clean up your own bullshit? Haha. I guess they’re your dogshit friends not mine. (33 minutes ago)
Heyahu: I don’t really care about Google, to me they’re just another foreign company. Google is just concerned about being a bit more “politically correct” is all. As someone who uses the net, I know what kind of a piece Google is. But let me make this clear to you, you government officials aren’t so great yourselves. There was no good reason for you to drive out Google. If there was a good reason why are you being so hush hush about everything? You won’t you even disclose what you talked about in your discussions with Google? Are they leaving China? And then you go and call us traitors. You in the government are incompetent and shameless. (33 minutes ago)
DonMis: I really don’t get it. So if a Chinese person likes Google then they are a hanjian, one who betrays the Han. So would a person from England be a yingjian, one who betrays England, or a Japanese person be a rijian, someone from Singapore be a xinjian, someone from the US be a zijian, one who betrays themselves? How many jian are there? You in the P(arty) and in the G(overnment) are really great aren’t you. By chasing out Google you’ve prevented even more Chinese people from becoming hanjian. Hehe. (33 minutes ago)
Sijiermo: Grass mud horses, you guys are like performance artists, keep up the onslaught! “Grass mud horse, hurry and shut off your computer and save electricity. Shouldn’t you be worrying more about addressing the drought?” @ “The Wu’s Daughter is Growing Up Microblog” (33 minutes ago)
Weibojingdianyulu [classic microblog comment]: I had originally been well-inclined towards #5 but then I hear him talk about Google’s “stinky feet” and I’m not so well-disposed. Hehe, you officials….hehe….you officials….It’s like that old saying, how does it go? All crows are…what color?….. (33 minutes ago)
TianZuo: Traitor? Who is it after all that is selling out the Chinese? You’re not even ashamed to put the blame on others!!(32 minutes ago)
Nashuiren: @woshijiafeimaoa (comment about how Wu Hao would feel uncomfortable with so many honest voices): Xinhua News Agency. (32 minutes ago)
Xiding: If it’s as Minister Wu says it is, then more than half of the people in the country are traitors. Of the remaining half, half of those are future traitors! (32 minutes ago)
Xindeyueli [experience of the heart]: @Suyule: I totally agree. I’m afraid that Google’s “idealism” is not entirely pure. (referring to the comment that Google is just a company that is a bit“idealistic” and that pinning one’s hopes on Google is ridiculous.) (32 minutes ago)
Aiweiwei: Don’t you guys see what’s going on. They put a label on you and then start purging and killing. Isn’t this the standard way our great Party operates? (32 minutes ago)
Lanseawei: I can’t believe that a government cadre away from his post has this much time on his hands to start arguments with people like this. //@Honghuangzaiilook: I had originally wanted to comment but then felt like it was not worth it. (32 minutes ago)
Xiaoxiaofuzi: Wow, I’m completely astonished that this guy is a government official and is even the propaganda minister. //@Honghuangzaiilook: I had originally wanted to comment but then felt like it was not worth it. (32 minutes ago)
jiagm: Minister Wu has really made an ass out of himself. I can’t believe someone who graduated from Peking University and holds such a high position can sound so unintelligent. I bet your old classmates from Peking University are all now too embarrassed to say that they went to school with you. (32 minutes ago)
Beijingzhishen: forward this to more people so they can see how ridiculous this guy is. //@Honghuangzaiilook: I had originally wanted to comment but then felt like it was not worth it. (32 minutes ago)
PandaKongfu: @Honghuangzaiilook: That Huang chick’s got balls. (32 minutes ago)
Beichenxiaoxiao: Ever notice how Peking University (beida) sounds like (baida) “to grow up mooching” and also sounds like (baida) “useless?” //@Honghuangzaiilook: I had originally wanted to comment but then felt like it was not worth it. (32 minutes ago)
Ading: What the hell can you use “your territory” for anyways besides as a place to bullshit. In less than 10 years you’ll know who the real traitors are. I pray for you that you will live well. (31 minutes ago)
Xiniutula: What trash. (31 minutes ago)
Fengye: Speaking of traitors, let me ask you again Minister Wu, which Chinese person came up with that whole Marxist-Leninist stuff you guys believe in? Which one of our ancestors exactly was the one who came up with it? //@Kaidiranxiang: Is Minister Wu incapable of making the currency conversion?? Since when has one US dollar been equal to 10 RMB? (31 minutes ago)
Zhangshikai: Are you saying that if you support Google then you don’t love the country? In that case then we all don’t love the country because we are all using Microsoft’s operating system. (31 minutes ago)
Tkelly: I recommend that people stop looking at his microblog. If he feels lonely I’m sure he’ll still get plenty of comfort from the other 50 centers. //@Honghuangzaiilook: I had originally wanted to comment but then felt like it was not worth it. (32 minutes ago)
Feiyueaiqinhai: @Motu: I guess this is possible (that the Minister’s account has been hacked into). Thanks for reminding us of this possibility. A bit out of character don’t you think? (31 minutes ago)
Chenghaibo: It’s too bad that Baidu hasn’t put up much of a fight and is just trying to be like Tencent and make lots of money. Baidu doesn’t seem willing to go after Google and create “the most accurate search engine.” (31 minutes ago)
Zhangyumofashu: If you have any self-respect don’t send your daughter to live abroad, otherwise no one will be able to take you seriously when you call them a traitor. (31 minutes ago)
Xsir317: That’s right bitch. Didn’t you also say in 2009 that you were going to start blocking microblogs? (31 minutes ago)
hukuikuisanshi: Grass mud horse, hurry and shut off your computer and save electricity. Shouldn’t you be worrying more about addressing the drought? (31 minutes ago)
Jinpu: Dear Minister, why do you always have to make things so complicated? Just be honest with us. No matter what Google’s intentions are, their departure is not good for net-users. I think everyone who has used Baidu and Google can agree on this. So why is it that if you express a little regret for Google’s departure you get branded a traitor?! (31 minutes ago)
hnnaonao: Number 5, take your scarf off (pun for shut down you microblog). What a prick, you’re really making an ass out of yourself. Are the Party’s minister-level leaders all this sh*ty? I’m ashamed for you! (31 minutes ago)
Jinri [today]: awesome! //@acthinair: You’re being watched. Bet you won’t sleep tonight. Let’s everyone spend the night around the fire chatting about Google. (31 minutes ago)
Nongfuying: I’ve been fawning over Google for a long time / but Washington has never given me so much as a dime. / What imperialist slime…Hey, that rhymed. (31 minutes ago)
Hezhenbiao: As a government spokesman writing on the web, you should realize that in the internet world you will always have a hard time striking the correct balance. Therefore, let me urge and remind spokespersons at all levels of government to be mindful of the difficulty of posting comments on the web. Thank you Minister for illustrating this important lesson. (31 minutes ago)
Woshijiafeimao [I am the fattened cat]: @Nashuiren: Lol, what a bunch of losers (referring to Xinhua News Agency). (31 minutes ago)
Zhaifei: Hey #5, Baidu is also an American company. I’m actually pretty surprised that you like the web so much, but I wonder if it’s kind of like how Lord Ye liked dragons. (Lord Ye professed to like dragons and had his entire palace adorned with paintings and carvings of dragons. However, when a real dragon, moved by Lord Ye’s devotion to dragons, decided to pay him a visit, Lord Ye dashed from his house in fear for his life. Thus the phrase, “Lord Ye likes dragons” means avprofessed love of what one really fears.) (31 minutes ago)
Wenwen2: Check this out, why is it that after Sina, Netease, and Tencent announced Google was pulling out of China that all the comments were people critical towards Google? Did the government order you Fifty Centers to all throw mud at Google? Lol. It’s really depressing but kind of funny at the same time. (31 minutes ago)
RedXXX: I originally wanted to respond to Minister Wu but it looks like everyone pretty much said what I wanted to. (31 minutes ago)
Yuhouchunshun [glimmer of spring after the rain]: Lol, your comment really exposes the nature of your work. Let me humbly ask, does fawning over Baidu’s stinky feet make you a traitor? It is also an American company. (31 minutes ago)
rainbowzb: Just enjoying watching a retard + his brainwashed lackeys. I spit at you. (31 minutes ago)
Gongmin008 [citizen008]: Be a little more broadminded. Supporting Google is all part of freedom of conscience and freedom of speech. It’s neither illegal nor immoral. Why are you making such a small issue tantamount to treason? (31 minutes ago)
Abrahamz: You’ve been yapping about this since this morning and are yapping into the night. Really, drop it guys, you don’t need to drag this on into tomorrow. It’s really not worth it. //@Honghuangzaiilook: I had originally wanted to comment but then felt like it was not worth it. (31 minutes ago)
Qiar: Forward this comment: What an honest patriot! (31 minutes ago)
Doufuru2 [plays with breasts (sounds the same as the word for “fermented bean curd”)]: You know why they call them cadres (ganbu)? It’s because besides being about to “fuck” (gan) they “can’t” (bu) do anything. (31 minutes ago)
Liuhongliang: The Google thing is just a commercial issue that has become politicized. You shouldn’t always tar everyone with the same brush. (31 minutes ago)
graypigeon: According to your definition, how many hundreds of millions of traitors are there in China? (31 minutes ago)
Shenzhenke [Shenzhen guest]: Disappointment is what you’d expect from someone who began his tenure by posing as some sort of “enlightened” news official. //@ Hetao: I’m disappointed in you Minister, extremely disappointed. (31 minutes ago)
JayLeo: Number 5, you’ve already turned “your territory” into a real shithouse. //@ Ading: What the hell can you use “your territory” for anyways besides as a place to bullshit. In less than 10 years you’ll know who the real traitors are. I pray for you that you will live well. (31 minutes ago)
jiagm: “Under the bold leadership of Minister Wu Hao, Yunnan is launching its “Beautiful Province Initiative.” Those who remember the “Beautiful Island Incident” (The Formosa incident occurred in 1979 when the Taiwanese government cracked down on opposition leaders) will be so pissed by the eerie similarities they’ll ram their head into the wall. (When the “Beautiful Province Initiative” was criticized, the critical remarks were removed by web censors.) (30 minutes ago)
Youyideren //@ Weibojingdianyulu: I had originally been well-inclined towards #5 but then I hear him talk about Google’s “stinky feet” and I’m not so well-disposed. Hehe, you officials….hehe….you officials… It’s like that old saying, all crows are black…..Do Chinese people really hate traitors that much? (30 minutes ago)
lczq: How can you say that America’s fifty centers are more than China’s five Yuan? Are you just pulling this out of thin air? Where are the numbers or evidence to support this. Also what’s “China’s five Yuan” supposed to mean anyway? The quality of people in the Propaganda Bureau is truly astonishing. (30 minutes ago)
vfan2010: //@ Weibojingdianyulu: I had originally been well-inclined towards #5 but then I hear him talk about Google’s “stinky feet” and I’m not so well-disposed. Hehe, you officials….hehe….you officials…. It’s like that old saying, how does it go? All crows are…what color?….. (30 minutes ago)
Maidouzu: I can’t believe you think worrying about google.cn is more important than actually doing something about the drought! You have to understand why you are an official and what an official is supposed to do. Your territory!? This is the People’s territory—it doesn’t belong to you officials. (30 minutes ago)
Chuantuoxiedepijiumao [beer cat in sandals]: At first I didn’t know about this guy, but after I heard far and wide about his bad deeds I wanted to check it out for myself. He really is narrow-minded. (30 minutes ago)
Meixike: Grass mud horse, hurry and shut off your computer and save electricity. Shouldn’t you be worrying more about addressing the drought? (30 minutes ago)
Wangjingchen: @Honghuangzaiilook: It looks like under the watchful eyes of the People, Mr. Wu has been put back in his place. I’m pleased that the People’s cultural self-awareness and objectivity is at such a high level. I’ve been happy to discover Vice Minister Wu’s world view.(30 minutes ago)
TianZuo: “Stop bullshitting on my territory”??? Are you claiming territory, seizing land, are you playing king of the mountain, are you some kind of roadside bandit??? (30 minutes ago)
Anshuye [eucalyptus leaf]: “Actually Google’s search engine is pretty effective, pretty effective that is at taking Chinese people’s money.” (This is a previous comment Wu Hao posted on his microblog.) Do you even understand the internet? According to your interpretation, could Chinese people not use Google before it had set up a representative office in China? The internet is not bounded by particular regions, though you probably would want China’s internet to be that way. Also, after Gogoel goes to Honk Kong, advertising for mainland companies on Google is going to stop, so how can you say that Google is good at “taking Chinese people’s money.” Even before Google entered China, domestic companies were still paying money to move up the Google search results page. (30 minutes ago)
Motu: @Feiyueaiqinhai: Man, it would be difficult for a government leader that was even more insane to spout out such empty nonsense. It seemed like before he wasn’t all that bad, at least not as bad as his comment suggests he now is. (30 minutes ago)
HaishangshengmingyueO: Forward this comment: Am I the only one who feels like his is possessed by the devil? Maybe he felt like they did 21 years ago, that it was a great time to sell their souls to the devil. (21 years ago was 1989 when the Tiananmen Square Incident occurred.) (30 minutes ago)
Maxizhexiaobanma: What a classic phony patriot. (30 minutes ago)
Jiangnanqingcaoye: When the Party or the nation’s leaders speak it’s different than when you or I speak. Their words have such heft, falling to the ground like clanging iron. It doesn’t matter if you’re speaking the truth or not, or if you’re labeling someone “a traitor,” “trash” “a dog” etc or not. It’s not like you have to have any real discussions before doing this, and it’s even less likely that you need any kind of “legal” determination…….I really, really wish we could do the same thing (speak with the same force and without having to verify one’s accusations) to those corrupt and greedy officials that are sprouting up like bamboo shoots after the spring rains. (30 minutes ago)
Xiha3000: It looks like you’re a bit of a lonely soldier here on this microblog. You’re not getting much help from anyone. You’re calling other people traitors when it’s you that’s ultra-conservative. You’re a disgrace. (29 minutes ago)
Xieqiang [harmony wall]: What a dumbass. (30 minutes ago)
Xiaojifankang [passive aggressive]: @ Heyahu: I totally agree. (30 minutes ago)
Zhouzongquan: Forward this comment: I worry about you. Really I do. (30 minutes ago)
Nianhuaweibie: The Crotch (sounds the same as “Party”) Central Committee hardens, the 50 centers rise to the occasion. (29 minutes ago)
Achiayong: The guy is just being human. Everyone acts impulsively sometimes. Who’s gone their whole life without ever cursing senselessly? And what do you have against Peking University? You think people who went to Peking University care about what you think? Maybe the Minister is just venting. Sometimes all people need to do is vent a little bit, you shouldn’t try to pin him into a corner, that just shows how narrow-minded you are. (29 minutes ago)
Tianshumangmang: The fact that more people are not going off at you does not mean that they don’t want to. You’ve been again saved by your “harmonious society.” (29 minutes ago)
Lige: Hello, as a mid to high level official your lack of understanding in this matter is excusable. I happen to have detailed information about Google’s withdrawal from China that I hope you will be willing to take a look at. I hope you will draw conclusions only after careful objective reflection. (29 minutes ago)
Wangjingchen: @Tianzuo: I feel the same as you. For a Party cadre to make such dumb remarks, I bet the Party Central Committee’s Organization Department (responsible for hiring and firing) is going to pull him aside for a stern talking to. (29 minutes ago)
Doufuganzi: OMG, what a tyrant. (29 minutes ago)
Bingkeer: You said it SO much better than Qin Gang (China’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman) ~! (29 minutes ago)
Dalanduo [big lazy]: Well….I’ve always felt like if Google wants to go then let it go. It’ not like we’re losing some dear member of our family. Why is everyone all crying and yelling and begging to keep Google in China? As for…. well, I don’t think this kind of sentiment has anything to do with being a traitor or not. What I can’t stand the most is making such a huge deal out of such a small thing—turning it into a matter of whether you love the country or not. (28 minutes ago)
Wangxiaoxiang: Don’t make a big deal out of nothing. Whether you “fawn” over Google or not is just a matter of personal taste—It doesn’t have anything to do with whether or not you are a traitor. Don’t force your opinion on us. Don’t invade our rights by being such an ideological imperialist. (28 minutes ago)
dtzhlq: Man~~ (28 minutes ago)
Feixiang: The “VIP” has shown his true colors. @Honghuangzaiilook: I had originally wanted to comment but then felt like it was not worth it. (28 minutes ago)
Feidianxingshiren: So is everyone who supports Google a traitor? Are you so unintelligent that you can only see things as black or white? (28 minutes ago)
Yakedongnanxibei: If supporting Google makes you a traitor then I must be a traitor. (28 minutes ago)
DIDI221: Who can be so uncivilized as to call Comrade #5 a traitor? He’s just sticking to his script like a good actor. (28 minutes ago)
Luoguangming: I support Minister Wu. (28 minutes ago)
Buchiyudemaomimi [Kitty that does not eat fish]: “Their fifty cents are worth much more than our five Yuan.” It looks like the Minister doesn’t pay much attention to the official exchange rates. (28 minutes ago)
Fengxiaoxiaoxi: Doesn’t the word “traitor” (one who betrays the Han people) a bit inappropriate? Why are you going off about traitors when we’re all Chinese, all one people, unless you’re trying to stir up ethnic tensions. I can’t believe you’re still the propaganda minister. (28 minutes ago)
Sangshanglaolin: Who’s the traitor here? What about the one who misleads the people and brings ruin on the nation? (27 minutes ago)
Maladuanzi: Hey #5, shut down your microblog. Why are you taking this abuse? You’re one of the Party’s cadres. With so much to do why don’t you actually do something productive. Unless of course, you really like taking all this abuse. Forget it, just be good! I really can’t stand watching you every day getting bitched out by all kinds of people. Take a bath and go to bed! It seems like bitching you out has now become the thing to do. Don’t you get tired of it? I’m starting to get sick of it. Bitched out day in and day out—are you some kind of masochist? (27 minutes ago)
tonyzhoush: It’s pretty ridiculous when web users get labeled traitors just because they express a little support for an internet company. It’s especially ridiculous because you say this after you claim that you’re “willing to take any criticism.” You really are shameless. Forgive me for saying this, but it’s one thing if you’re a whore and pretend to be some kind of saint—it’s not like you’re going to be struck by lightning or anything. But it’s another thing entirely if you’re a whore pretending to be a saint and you don’t even make an honest show of it. In that case you’re damned if you don’t get struck by lightning. (27 minutes ago)
benjaminc: Look at this retard! (27 minutes ago)
Ziyoulouti7: You really are a damned bastard!! Sorry, I couldn’t help myself. (27 minutes ago)
Zafka: Forward this comment: Everyone watch. This is a historic moment. //@Honghuangzaiilook: I had originally wanted to comment but then felt like it was not worth it. (27 minutes ago)
Shapigou2010: As we say in Shandong, zhen2 (damn bastard). (26 minutes ago)
Wangxiaoshan: I don’t get it, the government doesn’t let us to talk about Google and yet you keep on talking about it. Also, Washington’s 50 cents are approximately equivalent to 3.5 Yuan which is les than 5 Yuan. //@ Bingkeer: You said it SO much better than Qin Gang (China’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman) ~! (26 minutes ago)
Banxia9835: Are you not aware that 50% of Baidu’s shares are held by an American investment company??? Your so-called anti-traitor mindset is just like how they closed off the country to foreign influences in the Qing dynasty. It is narrow-minded, arbitrary and ignorant. (26 minutes ago)
Xingjinglaobao: Clearly Minister #5’s skill in going off on his senseless rants is actually not so hot. Can’t help but point that out. //@ Songxiyan: Heavens! In the past no matter what people said about #5 being phony, I always generously thought that he was a pretty quality guy. But then he goes off on this senseless rant with such skill and he even calls people traitors who are just stating the obvious truth. If it was this easy to be a traitor then it would be the Cultural Revolution all over again. Give us back “your territory.” What a great official, never afraid to flap his tongue. (26 minutes ago)
Dousou: Your values are a complete pile of shit. (26 minutes ago)
ivynook: exhibition. (exhibition, zhanlan, sounds like cockroach, zhanglang. This is likely an insult directed at Wu Hao.) (26 minutes ago)
Fuzhongshuo: Mr. Wu, why don’t you give us a definition of “traitor.” Don’t act like the government agencies that monitor the internet which act completely without any standards. What are we going to do when we wake up one morning and find out we’re traitors but don’t know how we got that way? (26 minutes ago)
PandaKongfu: @ Wangxiaoshan: Hey, Shan has joined us and is giving this dog a whipping while he’s down. (26 minutes ago)
Suns4488: Fuck! //@Honghuangzaiilook: I had originally wanted to comment but then felt like it was not worth it. (26 minutes ago)
Shapigou2010: @Yiyang1: You gave him a good bitching out before I could! (Yiyang1’s comment was that Minister Wu was a “classic traitor.”) (26 minutes ago)
acthinair: I actually feel that #5 is pretty impressive in sacrificing himself. As far as us net users are concerned, he’s the ideal whipping boy—he’s part of the government and he oversees the propaganda apparatus. After this voluntary “self-sacrifice” I expect he’ll get beaten to a pulp as though with boards and bricks. (25 minutes ago)
Blacktong [black pupil]: Wow, I bet that pissed him off. // @ HaishangshengmingyueO: Am I the only one who feels like his is possessed by the devil? Maybe he felt like they did 21 years ago, that it was a great time to sell their souls to the devil. //@Honghuangzaiilook: I had originally wanted to comment but then felt like it was not worth it. (25 minutes ago)
Heiewenshen [black moth tattoo]: I don’t fawn over Google’s stinky feet and I certainly don’t fawn over your stinky feet. That’s why I herby “shit” on “your territory” If any of you all want to “clean” this up then go ahead!!!! (25 minutes ago)
Meixike: Totally incoherent. Is this the best we can do for provincial level officials? (25 minutes ago)
Modengbuluo [modern tribe]: Wow, our Party really does produce some amazing officials! (25 minutes ago)
Yishumaizi: Lol. You’ve really shown your true nature. As a public figure and as the Minister of Propaganda it’s really astonishing that you speak the way you do. People who rely on being flattered by asskissers are especially well-suited to being traitors. (25 minutes ago)
Damaike: Aren’t things a bit more complicated then you’re making them out to be? Do you really need to divide people into traitors and non-traitors for no reason? You’re all using using Marxism which comes from Germany. On the political stage are we just supposed to sit around like shellfish so that you can look that much more dashing and brilliant? I hate to say it, but those who fail to distinguish between right and wrong and just discriminate against foreigners—that’s friggin racism. This is how the fascists were! (25 minutes ago)
Yangqiuqiu: I welcome you to censor me! Youtube, Facebook, Google, Twitter, four major websites have all finally fallen under the grandeur of the Celestial Empire! (25 minutes ago)
Gongwangfu: Don’t curse people out, everything else should be part of free speech….But I really feel like Google in China is really not as good as Google in other countries. Anyways what does it matter, if it’s gonna rain it’s gonna rain, if they’re gonna go they’re gonna go. //@ Weibojingdianyulu: I had originally been well-inclined towards #5 but then I hear him talk about Google’s “stinky feet” and I’m not so well-disposed. Hehe, you officials….hehe….you officials…. It’s like that old saying, how does it go? All crows are…what color?….. (25 minutes ago)
Maladuanzi: Hey Mr. 5. When I first commented there was only one page of comments, now there are over 11 pages. People must be attracted by your irresistable charm. (25 minutes ago)
Gdianfenghui [g-spot summit meeting]: If I were playing an online video game I’d definitely want the Minister as one of my characters. WU HAO: Agressiveness: XXXXX. You think he’s as bad-ass as Brother Chun? (Brother Chun was actually a woman (named Li Yuchun 李宇春) who won Super Girl, an all-female singing contest, after getting the most votes. People were drawn to her androgynous appearance, which was a contrast to all the other contestants.) //@ Wangxiaoshan: I don’t get it, the government doesn’t let us to talk about Google and yet you keep on talking about it. Also, Washington’s 50 cents are approximately equivalent to 3.5 Yuan which is les than 5 Yuan. //@ Bingkeer: You said it SO much better than Qin Gang (China’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman) ~! (25 minutes ago)
Tansuozhe19: Is #5 making threats? //@ Wangxiaoshan: I don’t get it, the government doesn’t let us to talk about Google and yet you keep on talking about it. Also, Washington’s 50 cents are approximately equivalent to 3.5 Yuan which is les than 5 Yuan. //@ Bingkeer: You said it SO much better than Qin Gang (China’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman) ~! (25 minutes ago)
Beiwei66duban [latitude 66 and a half degrees north]: the worthless have no enemies to fear. (24 minutes ago)
Nashuiren: @Tkelly: Don’t do that (referring to a comment that suggested boycotting Wu Hao’s blog)! Keep watching, it’s so entertaining~ (24 minutes ago)
tonyzhoush: When he runs into any real issues, he can’t keep up his disguise as such a saint. Sooner or later his poisonous fangs and sharp claws poke out and expose his true nature~~~ // @ HaishangshengmingyueO: Am I the only one who feels like his is possessed by the devil? Maybe he felt like they did 21 years ago, that it was a great time to sell their souls to the devil. //@Honghuangzaiilook: I had originally wanted to comment but then felt like it was not worth it. (24 minutes ago)
Yinyuexiaofeng: getting off on people ripping into the Fifty Center. (24 minutes ago)
Anshuye [eucalyptus leaf]: How can someone who doesn’t even understand the most basic things about the internet feel worthy to talk about Google? Don’t you know that Google has changed the history of the internet, has changed the way people gather information? If the internet is human civilization, then Googel is the introduction of paper making technology. How can you be so longwinded when you’re so ignorant. Have you forgotten what Chairman Mao said, that one who has not investigated has no right to speak? And you’re still the propaganda minister. You don’t even understand the most basic things. (24 minutes ago)
Blacktong: //@Jianglangcaiyisanshi: //@ Fengye: Speaking of traitors, let me ask you again Minister Wu, which Chinese person came up with that whole Marxist-Leninist stuff you guys believe in? Which of our ancestors was the one that thought up it? //@Kaidiranxiang: Is Minister Wu incapable of making the currency conversion?? Since when has one US dollar been equal to 10 RMB?(24 minutes ago)
Chenshaoju: Hey Twitterers, come over and look!!! @chenshaoju (24 minutes ago)
Shapigou2010: @Beijinyandeniniliushi: It’s not even worth trying to prove the truth with this kind of person. (24 minutes ago)
TianZuo: @ Wangjingchen: and this is a government official, a member of the Communist Party???!!! (24 minutes ago)
charley: I had thought at first that he was different. I even sympathized with him and felt that he was unusually truthful. But he’s finally shown his true nature as someone who’s not 2 different than all the other running dogs. (24 minutes ago)
Damaike: Do you really need to divide people into traitors and non-traitors for no reason? You’re all using using Marxism which comes from Germany. On the political stage are we just supposed to sit around like shellfish so that you can look that much more dashing and brilliant? I hate to say it but those who fail to distinguish between right and wrong and just discriminate against foreigners—this is friggin racism. This is how the fascists were! (24 minutes ago)
Merlin877: Wow, the cadre can do math, everyone stand back! //@Wangxiaoshan: I don’t get it, the government doesn’t let us to talk about Google and yet you keep on talking about it. Also, Washington’s 50 cents are approximately equivalent to 3.5 Yuan which is les than 5 Yuan. //@ Bingkeer: You said it SO much better than Qin Gang (China’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman) ~! (24 minutes ago)
kinas: After hearing this c(om)r(ad)’s comment I can’t help but feel like he is the insane offspring of an authoritarian news system. (24 minutes ago)
Qufei: I hope the current dynasty hurries up and makes it possible to “go to Washington” without having to get visas. Please get working on this, so that civilized countries don’t L(ook) D(own) on us. (24 minutes ago)
Yaoge: That’s right. How on earth did #5 ever get into Peking University? He can’t even do math //@ Wangxiaoshan: I don’t get it, the government doesn’t let us to talk about Google and yet you keep on talking about it. Also, Washington’s 50 cents are approximately equivalent to 3.5 Yuan which is les than 5 Yuan. //@ Bingkeer: You said it SO much better than Qin Gang (China’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman) ~! (24 minutes ago)
Jinri [today]: Has Minister Wu finally discovered that once you’ve gotten on a tiger it’s hard to get down? //@Tianyaxunmeng: Hey #5, I’m begging you to tell us about some of your actions during the 1989 (Tiananmen Square) incident and how you later changed. It would save us all from having to guess. Besides you don’t want to have this cloud on your name, it might influence your career. (24 minutes ago)
Xiaoqiaoliushui [small bridge over a flowing stream]: The f-ing government is so incompetent and shameless. It’s like Minister Wu is implying that the Party’s whole Marxist-Leninist thing was thought up by some Han Chinese guy. It was a German person you retard! So does that make everyone in the Party traitors? (23 minutes ago)
xfeihu: Guess he’s shown himself for what he is. (23 minutes ago)
Daocaoren1989 [scarecrow1989]: The government doesn’t want us to talk about Google and yet you keep on talking about it. How did you get to be the propaganda minister? (23 minutes ago)
Blacktong: //@Ading: What the hell can you use “your territory” for anyways besides as a place to bullshit. In less than 10 years you’ll know who the real traitors are. I pray for you that you will live well. (23 minutes ago)
Beifangcucanan [crude boy from the north]: Isn’t this a little contradictory, calling certain people traitors? This is a totally thoughtless thing to say. What is a traitor anyway? Someone who’s views are opposed to your own? Perhaps it is that you secretly think too highly of Google so you get angry when people speak well of it. This isn’t good for either side. Everyone is just trying to think what’s best for the people. How can you say that you’ll accept people’s criticism but not listen to any opposing viewpoints? Also, it’s not like other people are “fawning” over anything, they’re just expressing their views on the matter which might happen to be different than (The writer’s comment exceeded the 140 character limit.) (23 minutes ago)
Shapigou2010: I feel like this guy is pretty pitiful, pitiful to the point of being ridiculous. (23 minutes ago)
Yunshangyangguang [sunlight above the clouds]: “Can equality exist without freedom?” (23 minutes ago)
Lingyun [spirit sunshine]: First, what Wu’s saying makes sense. Second, some people are just making comments because they like to hear themselves talk. In addition, he’s just getting cussed out because he’s an official. Further, some people are just venting their own shit. Further again, those who are throwing shit at Wu Hao, take a good look at yourself, there aren’t more than a few of you who deserve any respect. Finally, don’t moan and bitch about this and that like you’re getting some kind of sexual pleasure out of it. Go to hell! Finally again, it’s unfortunate that I have just become one of the persons I’ve yelled at. (23 minutes ago)
Sanbudedingdingmao [dingding cat on a walk]: @Wuxinkuaiyuqishi: How did this guy get to be the propaganda minister? (22 minutes ago)
Zhangzhengwen: I thought the propaganda ministry was not allowed to discuss Google. I’m going to report #5 to the party and request that he be relieved of his duties. (22 minutes ago)
Zhengfeiyu: I guess that’s how he is. //@flypig: The valiant Comrade Wu has blown his top!!! (22 minutes ago)
Tkelly: @Nashuiren: I agree (that we should not boycott Wu Hao’s blog) (22 minutes ago)
Yangsan: What a natural 50 center. I was surprised by how he inspires such awe by 50 centing with such a pure sense of justice. This is first time I’ve really admired Comrade 5. (22 minutes ago)
Woyedaisangebiao [I also wear three watches (a play on words with “The Three Represents,” Jiang Zemin’s signature ideological creation)]: What you just said proves again that you should be named Wu Mao (50 Center) instead of Wu Hao! (22 minutes ago)
Yalian: I really feel sorry for your daughter that she has you as a father. (22 minutes ago)
Yinyuexiaofeng: I’m going to refrain from directing any of my comments to #5’s daughter. I have my limits. (22 minutes ago)
Ferpiao [floating phoenix]: We really should kick this bum out. He’s really a blight on the internet //@ Wangxiaoshan: I don’t get it, the government doesn’t let us to talk about Google and yet you keep on talking about it. Also, Washington’s 50 cents are approximately equivalent to 3.5 Yuan which is les than 5 Yuan. //@ Bingkeer: You said it SO much better than Qin Gang (China’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman) ~! (22 minutes ago)
Shenzhenke: Not only are you ruining your own image, even more than that you’re causing problems for our great P(arty). It’s not river crab (pun for “harmonious.” Ie., it conflicts with the government’s goal of “creating a harmonious society.” In the world of Chinese mythological internet creatures, the river crabs endanger the environment of the grass mud horses.) (22 minutes ago)
Rangjiyiheibai [making memories black and white]: If that’s the case that you can accept any criticism, then I should be able to call you a dumbass without you minding, right? (22 minutes ago)
Langruibo: So is 2 times 8 equal to 18 then? //@Merlin877: Wow, the cadre can do math, everyone stand back! //@W Wangxiaoshan: I don’t get it, the government doesn’t let us to talk about Google and yet you keep on talking about it. Also, Washington’s 50 cents are approximately equivalent to 3.5 Yuan which is les than 5 Yuan. //@ Bingkeer: You said it SO much better than Qin Gang (China’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman) ~! (22 minutes ago)
Xingsuomingren: This is a classic case of 50 centers at work. (21 minutes ago)
Sixiaonan: Your Party’s cadres are simply much better at doing the Party’s work. (The way the sentence was written, it could also be read, “You’re Party’s cadres are simply much better at doing crotch work.”) //@flypig: The valiant Comrade Wu has blown his top!!! (21 minutes ago)
Daocaoren1989: No wonder everyone hates the 50 Cent Party when even one of their ringleaders is so incompetent. (21 minutes ago)
Nashuiren: @ Wangxiaoshan: Hey, it’s Shan again! (21 minutes ago)
Qujingtongyou: Are people going off at you again? Congratulations on looking forward to another night of being bitched out. (Why do you do this to yourself? Who are you trying to please? Don’t take things to such extremes). (21 minutes ago)
Ainishijie [loving you is disaster]: Everyone watch the 50 center go off on his crazy rant. You can just imagine what he looks like drooling and foaming at the mouth. (21 minutes ago)
Zhaoxiaojie: Let me ask the Minister, which is greater 1 million US dollars or 10 million US dollars? (the person writing this comment probably meant to ask which was greater 1 million US dollars or 10 million RMB.) (21 minutes ago)
chenjin1984: All you know how to do is call people traitors. Up his Grandpa’s. What a dumbass this phony patriot is. (21 minutes ago)
Liubin929: I agree, let’s keep on watching the 50 center! ~ (21 minutes ago)
Yangcongshekaximaodou [The Onion Press, Quasimodo]: Don’t avoid the issue by launching ad hominem attacks, pay attention to your tone. Trash-talking has never been the tone of freedom and democracy. (21 minutes ago)
Yuelanda: Peking University, majored in Chinese, what a rare talent this guy is! (21 minutes ago)
underground1984: @DIDI221: (DIDI221 made a comment suggesting that Wu Hao was more like an actor than a traitor.) Whatever you do, make sure your acting skills don’t outshine your superiors—those guys are pro. If you outshine your masters they might just do you in. (21 minutes ago)
Sijiermo: Grass mud horses, you guys are like performance artists, keep up the onslaught! “Grass mud horse, hurry and shut off your computer and save electricity. Shouldn’t you be worrying more about addressing the drought?” @ “The Wu’s Daughter is Growing Up Microblog” (21 minutes ago)
digitalboy: Naked official. (A “naked official” is a corrupt official that transfers all his assets and even family members overseas. Thus, he appears to be “naked” and immune from corruption investigations until he can join his family (and his wealth) overseas.) And to which country might I ask do most corrupt officials go to? (21 minutes ago)
riyuexingchenV [heavenly bodies V (On Sina, the letter V represents a “verified account.”)]: Forward this comment: Support China! Bring down the American imperialists. (21 minutes ago)
JayLeo: I guess the valiant Comrade Wu got such intense pleasure by being done by everyone he couldn’t hold it in any longer. //@flypig: The valiant Comrade Wu has blown his top!!! (20 minutes ago)
AQweibo [Ah-Q microblog (Ah-Q is a character in a Lu Xun story)]: Proudly announcing the grand opening of shithouse #5 (Pun on Wu Hao’s name). (19 minutes ago)
Gongminyoulerensheng [citizen’s life of sorrow and joy]: As a migrant worker, someone from the lowest social class, I represent others from my class in expressing my contempt for you dog-officials. (This is the first time I’ve cursed a dog-official at your level. If you see my comment, write back so I can show it off to the guys I work with. Thanks dog-official. (19 minutes ago)
phyllisxie: Who is it that’s a traitor? This is the question. (18 minutes ago)
Yinyuexiaofeng: @ Daocaoren1989: ringleader of the 50 Cent Party. (18 minutes ago)
Tangzhao: When I see your cute kid on your page I feel like it’s a bit inappropriate for you to talk the way you do. You sound like some kind of small-time angry internet junky. As a father you need to be more of a role model! (18 minutes ago)
Baguaxiaotianshen: Forward this comment: I actually don’t feel like it’s that serious. At most it’s just a bit frightening that he sounds so uncultured. (18 minutes ago)
Chuanshuozhongdexiaolei [the Xiaolei of legend]: Lol! I guess you couldn’t keep on pretending! The eyes of the People are vigilant. I just knew you would show your true nature. But the saddest thing isn’t this, it’s that he doesn’t even know he’s made any sort of mistake. (18 minutes ago)
CTQY: Are you Wu Hao or Wu Mao (50 Cent)? (18 minutes ago)
Yinyuexiaofeng: @ Yinyuexiaofeng: Let’s all make lots of money by holding aloft the banner of the 50 Cent Party. (18 minutes ago)
Yangcongshekaximaodou: I feel that people online shouldn’t be so harsh to the guy. A good official is someone who can get out there talk with the people. There’s no harm in that. A bad official is someone who’s too lazy to engage in real debate. It’s OK if people have differing opinions. (17 minutes ago)
Caonimazuguo [mud grass horse motherland]: Forward this comment: I just everyone’s comments and they’re all garbage. Little wonder. (17 minutes ago)
Aihuanxiangxiaozhu [pig who loves to daydream]: I’ve already put Wu Hao on my blacklist so I won’t see his posts! But because the people I follow on Sina keep on forwarding me their rebuttals I still end up seeing all his damn comments! I thought that I had avoided him but I guess I can’t escape. How annoying is that! (17 minutes ago)
Buchibaobuwan [not playing until fed]: I can’t tell you how long its been since I’ve seen such a dumbass. If I didn’t curse him out myself I wouldn’t feel quite right. (16 minutes ago)
Shuaizhouyuan: @Gongminyoulerensheng: I totally agree with you!! (16 minutes ago)
GuqingfengTony: @ Beifangcucaonan: dogs always have to say what their masters want them to say. Who gave these dogs the right to blindly accuse everyone who likes Google as being traitors? Dogs have no right defining who is and who is not a traitor. (16 minutes ago)
Yiamazing [translate amazing]: What a choice child of the Celestial Empire. You will forever be at odds with Google. I stand in silent tribute. (16 minutes ago)
wright: Google has its own set of beliefs. The government needs to preserve stability. It seems to me that neither side is in the wrong. @ Wangxiaoshan: I don’t get it, the government doesn’t let us to talk about Google and yet you keep on talking about it. Also, Washington’s 50 cents are approximately equivalent to 3.5 Yuan which is les than 5 Yuan. //@ Bingkeer: You said it SO much better than Qin Gang (China’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman) ~! (16 minutes ago)
Liuyong [willow chant]: Is this the best we can do for a provincial vice minister of propaganda? I guess we’ve found the real “#5.” Even though I’m not a huge fan of Google and also don’t approve of how it’s been handled by the various government agencies, I personally feel like as an official in charge of propaganda you should exercise a little self-control. You should pay attention to the language you use and not just spout out filth. Not only do you represent yourself, you also represent the provincial government. //@ Yunshangyangguang: “Can equality exist without freedom?” (15 minutes ago)
GuqingfengTony: @ Yangcongshekaximaodou: Are you saying there’s “no harm” in calling people who like Google traitors? Is there “no harm” in what the P(arty) does all the time—label people as traitors? (14 minutes ago)
Chuangqiangsigumeng: Officials like you make our Party completely lose face. Why don’t you think of doing something productive for Yunan and stop fretting blindly about Google. (14 minutes ago)
Fanqiang: Wu Hao’s post proves that high-level 50 centers are probably getting paid more like 5 Yuan per post. Soon they’ll be hoping that we call them 5 Yuaners because 50 cents, this pay rate, is much too low in China. (13 minutes ago)
GuqingfengTony: @ Chuanshuozhongdexiaolei: I agree (with the comment about how Minister Wu has shown his true nature) (13 minutes ago)
Liweizhang: I absolutely support Minister Wu’s gutsy stance on this issue. In this chaotic world, Minister Wu has shared what is most rare—a sober-minded view about what is actually going on! Let America’s 50 Centers all go to 2012 (ie., go to hell. 2012 is a reference to the movie about the end of the world). (12 minutes ago)
Bingningchengxia [ice lemon orange summer]: Chinese people can choose any type of occupation, but the only thing they’re not allowed to do is to run off to developed countries. If they could, China would have already completely emptied out two thousand years ago. No matter whose 50 centers, China’s or America’s, please Minister Wu, don’t ever say “wag your tail between your legs and go begging” again. (12 minutes ago)
thisisitMJ: Number 5, if you’re not a traitor then don’t act like one. (12 minutes ago)
lee03: “If you want to fawn over Google’s stinky feet, then wag your tail between your legs and go begging in Washington. Their 50 cents are more than our 5 Yuan. So Go!” First of all, Google does not stink. It has just been used by America’s current political situation. If you look at it objectively, their demands are reasonable. Second, America’s 50 cents is much less than our 5 Yuan. The RMBs fixed exchange rate is watched with consternation by people around the world. If you’re not traitors why do you peg your exchange rate to the American dollar? How do you explain that contradiction? (12 minutes ago)
Yijiepifu: Don’t always just talk about Google. Why don’t you at least mention the reason why the G(overnment) has always required Google to censor its search results? (12 minutes ago)
Gongminyoulerensheng: @ Shuaizhouyuan: dog-officials still don’t dare face the huge body of low-skilled laborers. (12 minutes ago)
Zhangkun1982: Why can’t I curse him out? @ Is the microblog “The Wu’s Daughter is Growing Up” traitorous? I feel like people have been accurate in their criticism. People have called you a traitor, one who betrays the Han people. They haven’t called you a traitor to the country or a traitor to the Party. Of course, you definitely are not a traitor to the Party. Time will see if you’re a traitor to the People. If you all throw us into a fiery shithole then you will really deserve the title of traitor. (12 minutes ago)
xdcandy: @ Beijinyandeniniliushi: Everyone remember to see if Minister Wu sends his daughter to live abroad! North Korea doesn’t count! (12 minutes ago)
Nashuiren: @ Chenshaoju: Welcome everyone!~~The seating’s a bit tight~~ (referring to the comment inviting Twitterers to come and watch.) (12 minutes ago)
cuijin: I guess they all grew up listening to “Speechless death,” Wujiangsimo. (The author is making a pun an old government slogan, Wujiangsimei, “The five things to say and the four lovelies.” //@ Zhangliang: I had been planning on making some vicious comment but I stopped myself in time. No use jacking off over this, filth and viciousness have no end. (11 minutes ago)
dannyboyle: You don’t hear officials talk like this often so I logged in to leave a message. (11 minutes ago)
Shuaizhouyuan: @ Fengerpiao: I totally agree with you! (11 minutes ago)
Shangwujiaolianhaoran [business coach amazing]: Is this the best we can get for G(overnment) officials? Whatever, just don’t forget his background! //@Liuyong: Even though I’m not a huge fan of Google and also don’t approve of how it’s been handled by the various government agencies, I personally feel like as an official in charge of propaganda you should exercise a little self-control. You should pay attention to the language you use and not just spout out filth. (11 minutes ago)
JuliusMallius: It’s not important anymore whether Google leaves or not. The seeds it has sown and the values it professes have already taken root in the mainland. (11 minutes ago)
Hanmoxiaoxia: Hey everyone, this is a place where people are supposed to discuss issues and express opinions. Please stop using filthy language or engaging in ad hominem attacks. You’ll get more traction if you place out the facts, reason intelligently, and convince people with your arguments. We should just be happy that Minister Wu is here online at all. Everything takes time, don’t be so uptight. (11 minutes ago)
Chuanshuzhongdexiaolei: Hey, Wu Children’s Shoe [sounds like Classmate Wu]! If you really wanted to be an friggin hero you would lay out all your personal finances for everyone to see! That’s what the People really want! Otherwise don’t keep on saying how you’re willing to listing to people’s opinions! It’s not worth a shit! (10 minutes ago)
HopeGundam: Just got immunized and wanted to thank the government (referring to contaminated immunizations) //@ MimicryRyu: Minister, don’t forget to get your daughter immunized. (10 minutes ago)
Pangma: I was about to go to sleep but was amazed when I looked again. What awesome comments! This guy really sucks. Alright, I’m out. (10 minutes ago)
Baijiazhibubaijia [save a family’s fortune by wasting it]: Reposting this stuff is a worthy endeavor Minister Wu. //@Honghuangzaiilook: I had originally wanted to comment but then felt like it was not worth it. (9 minutes ago)
Nashuiren: @ Yinyuexiaofeng: I agree. Come one guys lets be more polite and orderly~~ (8 minutes ago)
Wangyingming: And who are the 50 center’s classmates? //@ Weibojingdianyulu: I had originally been well-inclined towards #5 but then I hear him talk about Google’s “stinky feet” and I’m not so well-disposed. Hehe, you officials….hehe….you officials…. It’s like that old saying, how does it go? All crows are…what color?….. (8 minutes ago)
Boledi: I guess Minister Wu has discovered he hasn’t gotten enough exposure recently so he’s purposely humiliating himself to get more attention. (8 minutes ago)
VChaodandashenV: No matter what Google’s purpose is in leaving, at least they did not insult the Chinese people. I would hope that Minister Wu, as one of the great nation’s officials, would similarly not throw insults at Google. It is not becoming of your high office. (8 minutes ago)
letitbe2: If people who like to use Google are traitors, then people who like to use electric lights and the internet are ~~~ //@Jianglangcaiyisanshi: //@ Fengye: Speaking of traitors, let me ask you again Minister Wu, which Chinese person came up with that whole Marxist-Leninist stuff you guys believe in? Which of our ancestors was the one that thought up it? //@Kaidiranxiang: Is Minister Wu incapable of making the currency conversion?? Since when has one US dollar been equal to 10 RMB? (8 minutes ago)
Liubotao: All this talk of traitors is so insane. //@Chencun: this guy’s got to be clear on what “his territory” is. Does he think that Sina Microblogs are under Yunnan’s jurisdiction? It is a public platform, so you can’t carve out “your territory.” You’re not just betraying the Huan, you’re betraying humanity! //@ Wangxiaoshang: I don’t get it, the government doesn’t let us to talk about Google and yet you keep on talking about it. Also, Washington’s 50 cents are approximately equivalent to 3.5 Yuan which is les than 5 Yuan. //@ Bingkeer: You said it SO much better than Qin Gang (China’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman) ~! (8 minutes ago)
